June 20th, 2008

Good news for all those Perth folk that have been digging the magic and much loved sounds of The Slow Beings and Toby Richardson pumping out of their radio of late (courtesy of the mighty RTRFM). As part of our “Let’s Get Physical” campaign (sure I just made that up) HSR has made We Know Why The Earth Moves by The Slow Beings and Evergreen by Toby Richardson available on CD in store at Planet, Mt Lawley. Eager beavers should note you can now buy The Slow Beings CD almost a full week before the official CD release date. Both albums are of course also available digitally.

For all non Perth folk or those too scared to step out of the house We Know Why The Earth Moves will also be available through the Hidden Shoal Recordings store after it’s official CD release on the 26th of June. This will be the first of many releases made available on CD through the HSR online store including all future releases and as much of the recent (and beyond) catalogue as is possible. Stay tuned for more info.

Sankt Otten US CD Release

June 20th, 2008

Hidden Shoal Recordings have announced the US CD release of Wunden Gibt Es Immer Wieder, the latest masterwork by German cinematic pop outfit Sankt Otten.

Having already generated a wonderful buzz from its digital release, making a number of Top 10 of 2007 lists and garnering a range of glowing reviews, Sankt Otten’s Wunden Gibt Es Immer Wieder will now receive its US CD release through the wonderful US-based distributor Tonevendor. Wunden Gibt Es Immer Wieder is the follow up to the immensely successful and critically praised Wir Koennen Ja Freunde Bleiben, which is now also available on CD through Tonevendor.

“The instrumental ambience of the album is lavishing, gorgeous, and inexplicably German… And the melodies… Ah, the melodies. The track ‘Der Groove Des Guten Gewissens’, with its dramatic strings and high octave piano notes, is a true cinematic experience – turn that up and walk around the city in the rain, and let me know if your eyes don’t swell up with tears” – Headphone Commute

Both albums will be available in stores throughout the US as well as internationally through the Tonevendor website. If your local store doesn’t stock the album then tell them to get their act together and order it through Tonevendor! Both Sankt Otten albums are also available as a digital downloads through the HSR Store and the usual digital vendors.

A full press release is available here.

The Slow Beings “We Know Why The Earth Moves” – Luna Kafe

June 20th, 2008

Excerpt: “Last month I raved about The Slow Beings’ single choice from this album, ‘I Waste The Sea’… We Know Why The Earth Moves’s opening track still is a nice song, but is now stretched out into a 6-minute-piece – twice its single edit length. It’s a cool opener… The neatly titled We Know Why The Earth Moves holds 10 songs of sparkling indie pop/rock. Magnificent and grand, yet down to earth in sound and attitude. A fine combination of tip-toe and slack… ‘Yoshkar-ola Song’, ‘People Leave Heaven’, ‘Carson Dyle’, ‘The Happy Few’ and the title track are among many fine moments from a strong debut.”

Iretsu “Name Our Numbers, Numbers” – Luna Kafe

June 20th, 2008

Excerpt: “Iretsu’s debut album was a great mind-blower, a blasting little collection of playful art-pop gems… Yet again Iretsu prove they’re splendid, magic pop-heads. ‘Name…’ is a frantic, energetic, happy-go-lucky sort of feel-food pop song, and it makes me assure myself to yet again put on their album. This is perfect music for dancing when the sun is shining, or when the rain starts pouring, or if there’s a cold wind breezing up. Delicious stuff. Again, Arcade Fire, move over and let Iretsu through!”
