Boxharp “The Green” – Luna Kafe

June 29th, 2010

Excerpt: “Just a few months ago, the American ambient experimental pop duo Boxharp (Wendy Allen and Scott Solter) released the stunning Loam Arcane EP… The album format becomes them well. Boxharp further evolves their cold, sparkling ambient soundscape on The Green. It is chilled, airy, dream pop, clothed in contemporary synth as well as the old gramophone noise or birdsongs. And, of course, it is the still angelic voice of Wendy Allen that gives the tunes an almost prosaic otherworldly beauty… Boxharp make adoringly delightful pop music.”

Boxharp “The Green” – Igloo

June 29th, 2010

Excerpt: “shifting between gentle yet slightly unsettling ambiance and new wave-ish pop, sprinkled throughout with vocalist Wendy Allen’s ethereal folk tales… a strange mixture of styles juxtaposed against each othe… the lyrics and the vocal style offer the most intrigue with this release… Against the seemingly relentless flow good, but similar, neo-folk releases, might it just be possible that this strangely literal mix of traditional and modern music offers an engaging take on what folk means these days?”
