RL/VL Bio

.
RL/VL is the brainchild of 18-year-old Belfast-based electronic composer Jack Hamill. An acronym for Real Life/Virtual Life, Hamill’s music works at the often fragile boundary between humankind and the world around us.
Hailing from the tree-lined suburbs of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Jack found the epicentre of his inspiration in a sun-soaked autumn spent in the USA and began excavating his compositions in the last days of 2006. Today, he continues to put sound to tape, fuelled by memories, films, locations and nature as inspiration. He uses a variety of equipment to craft his uncanny sound, including a vast array of analogue synths, tape machines, old cassettes, a computer and old toys.
With previous releases on Acroplane (Tardypoints) and Sounds Asleep Recordings (Gigi’s Catch of the Day), RL/VL’s first release through Hidden Shoal Recordings is the lo-fi ambient masterwork Chagrin.
