Bury The Sound Reviews

Bury the Sound “Autumn Magnets” – Cyclic Defrost

September 27th, 2007

Excerpt: “Opening track ‘What Would One Become’ vividly introduces the band’s widescreen sweep… By contrast, ‘Saratoga’ comes across as more concisely focused over its comparatively short six-minute running length, introducing unmistakable hints of Pink Floyd-esque prog into the equation as cosmic-sounding drones build beneath contemplative bass figures and feathery dub-treated cymbals… ‘Gemini Unbound’ brings this EP to a close on perhaps its most cinematic-sounding note… Autumn Magnets is an extremely impressive EP from Bury The Sound that hints towards very good things ahead – at just three tracks, it’s also somewhat frustratingly short, and hopefully we’ll soon get to hear just what this intriguing Melbourne-based band are capable of over a longer release.”

Bury the Sound “Autumn Magnets” – The Silent Ballet

August 18th, 2007

Excerpt – “Autumn Magnets is a thickly textured opus… Their approach displays the hallmarks of a relaxed and dynamic group, playing at an easily variable pace and atmosphere, letting the songs find their own course, building and swelling for as long as necessary… Over the three lengthy compositions, changes in dynamics and color are admirably subtle, where other bands would be far less sensitive… Bury the Sound are an understated group, and they will creep into the consciousness of open minded listeners. For a willing individual, this is one EP that will pay off. It is unquestionably a grower. Autumn Magnets is a release that foreshadows something great. Plenty of buried potential is ready to be unearthed in these musicians.”

Bury the Sound “Autumn Magnets” – Luna Kafe

July 31st, 2007

Excerpt – “I was really pleased by Bury the Sound’s self-released debut almost two years back. And, here’s more of the same, dreamy stuff… Their sound and music stretch towards cinematic landscapes. Think night time, big cities with slowly shifting city lights, half empty streets with lazy strolling night people. Think independent movies, think black and white… Autumn Magnets is a very fine EP. BTS have created a very clean and clear, rich and crisp sound, with instruments just fitting each other quite perfectly. The challenge will be (if/when) to come up with a long player with the same focus and quality.”

Bury the Sound “Autumn Magnets” – Textura

July 30th, 2007

Excerpt – “‘What Would One Become’ eases into view slowly with an elegant electric guitar and ride cymbal combination but soon incrementally swells in force… propelled by drummer Shannon Hayes’ fierce attack. Lush tonal and percussive textures lend the more subdued ‘Saratoga’ a dreamy and meditative vibe, though Hayes’ aggressive beatsmithing prevents the tune from getting too ponderous. Porecki’s delicate piano ruminations move to the fore on ‘Gemini Unbound’, at least until jagged guitar stabs nearly drown it out. It’s the most atmospherically varied piece of the three, with raw, explosive episodes alternating with quiet, bass-dominated passages. Based on the material here, Bury the Sound could be described as a natural first cousin to kindred outfits Run_Return and Do Make Say Think.”
